Sonja built and began Stonestreet Stables at this location beginning in January 1982, and has operated this beautiful equine facility full time since then. Care and safety of horses in her care, and riders at Stonestreet Stables, has been her business passion full time for over four decades.
Sonja is a past Mountain States Circuit Finals qualifier in the WPRA (Women’s Professional Rodeo Assn.) Sonja enjoyed a successful career in training, competing, and brokering top barrel racing horses throughout the US and Canada. She has worked as a sought after barrel racing instructor and clinician.

Collective History
About 12 years ago, Dave and Sonja both retired from riding, competitions, training, and their roles as clinicians to focus full-time on the care of their boarding clients' horses. They retired at the peak of their respective competitive careers.
Now, they rarely travel or leave their property. Instead, they have dedicated themselves to providing the safest and most enjoyable equine boarding facility in northern Colorado, complete with multiple upscale equine amenities, all offered at moderate and affordable boarding rates. Their commitment is to help their clients achieve their equine dreams.
The facility has become a cherished place for its community. Many boarding clients, especially students, have chosen to take their graduation photos at the facility with their horses. Two former clients even celebrated their weddings there. Every year, Dave and Sonja gather with their "boarding family" for annual Labor Day and New Year’s Day potluck gatherings.
Around six years ago, they rescued two mini horses who had been beaten, traumatized, starved, and neglected. Over time, these once untouchable and terrified horses transformed into the facility’s "Good Will Ambassadors." They now greet guests with interest, curiosity, cuddles, and kisses. Their sweetness is magnetic, drawing everyone they meet to them. These mini horses are a living reminder that every living creature has value and worth and deserves to be treated with dignity.
Dave and Sonja continue to care for others' horses because their love and passion for horses—and for helping horse owners achieve their equine goals—remains strong. This is their preferred way of life. Each day, they look forward to doing what they do best: providing the safest and most enjoyable life for the horses in their care while aiding their clients in achieving their equine goals.
Our Barn Family
Check out the photos from our annual Labor Day Bar-B-Q Potluck! At our barn, we’re more than just horse enthusiasts—we’re a family. Regardless of age, horse breed, or riding discipline, everyone gets along beautifully, with no drama, just good energy.
We also hold an annual New Year’s Day hot chili and hot soup potluck, another beloved tradition that brings our barn family together. Both of these gatherings are hosted in our indoor arena, where clients and their families enjoy great food, warm company, and the joy of being part of our unique community. We can’t wait to celebrate with you all again soon!
